BEST HURRICATION EVER!

"We found Susan and Kevin's place when were were looking for a place to evacuate from Hurricane Dorian with my 93 yr old mother and 2 labs. We found a gem!!!! Not only were the accommodations outstanding, but Susan and Kevin were THE BEST! They made us feel so welcome and gave us SO many great ideas of restaurants to eat at and things to do. The cabin is so warm and homey and has everything you could possibly need, including an awesome sauna and outdoor deck with beautiful views! You can tell that a lot of thought went into the furnishings and decor to give their guests the "rustic, mountain feel" that you want when you visit the area but all the comforts of home. We will definitely be back and won't wait for another hurricane to travel there!" -Catherine B

It is like staying in your own home. We were greeted with fresh wildflowers, wonderful smelling lotions and candles. The back porch is a real treat with a fantastic view and many comfortable places to sit and enjoy. There was a popular hummingbird feeder hung off the deck that made for wonderful entertainment. At night, we walked down to the outdoor fire pit and made s'mores that were provided by Susan. It's an easy drive to either Brevard to Waynesville, which made it nice to have options on where to go each day. -Reese W

"We absolutely loved our stay here in Shining Rock Wilderness. The cabin itself is pristine, clean and well laid out. All of the amenities you could ask for are there, including a grill, a fire pit, and very comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms. The property is perfect for enjoying nature, as there is a calming brook running around the property, and great views. The best part about our stay was how attentive our host was. Susan really went out of her way to ensure that we had everything we needed, even offering to set up a convenient area to clean fish (if we were that lucky from our fishing trip!) You will not be disappointed in your stay here." -David Z

"My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay. Susan (our host) has thought of everything to make the cabin beautiful and comfortable. Things we especially loved: The sauna - wonderful! The decor - beautiful wood everywhere. Very comfortable furniture, well-equipped kitchen for cooking & grilling, excellent and easy to use charcoal grill, extremely comfortable beds (mattresses were perfect), many interesting books to read, and games. High-quality towels and linens. Hummingbird feeder on deck. Easy to use internet (fast enough for all our needs!) The location was very quiet and peaceful, surrounded by trees. We had a few worries about making it up the hill to reach the cabin (from previous reviews), but it turned out to be fine. There are many beautiful waterfalls and hikes very close to the house - from well-traveled, spectacular waterfalls where you will meet people from all over North Carolina and beyond, to many less well-known hikes that feel private and secret. Be sure to ask Susan and her husband Kevin for advice on local hikes!" -Ann L

"The Owners/Property Managers, Susan & Kevin, are Gems, they make you feel rights at home! Virtually everything was provided from your morning coffee drinking on the porch with a view of the mountain to your marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers to make s'mores while siting around the wood burning fire pit with plenty of wood to burn. They even brought us some of their home grown garden vegetables!!! Leave your electronic devices behind and get ready for some great outdoor activities like hiking, water falls, river water rafting or simply a short drive to Asheville downtown for a great evening with great food and music & arts!!! Thank you Susan & Kevin for your great hospitality. We will be back!" ----Mason K

"Amazing cabin, BEAUTIFUL property and hikes. This area of NC is one of my favorites, and would highly recommend this cabin to anyone! Cabin is well maintained, clean and homey. Front and back porches, basement and the balcony off the master bedroom were the highlights of the house, but the view from the back porch is amazing! Quiet environment, perfect for couples or anyone who needs to get away!" -Madeline S

"This property was the jewel of the crown in our trip. Amazing location; away from the city and close to Pisgah. Susan and her husband are great, accommodating and all their recommendations - as their property - was beyond our expectations! If you want something special this is it.
The property is fairly big with 3 floors, plenty of sitting room inside and outside, amazing porches to hang out, great spot for a bon-fire in the backyard and even board games for the kids to play with. Kitchen is fully equipped. (They even had a full set of S'mores ingredients ready for us) Linens and towels were all set up.
Bottom line - it was like a 5 star hotel with a personal touch. It is located 10-15 min from Pisgah Inn and restaurant which is a must in this area. It's a 2 min drive to great trails. We were so overwhelmed that we didn't even use the sauna.. Imagine that! I would highly recommend it and would definitely go back again on our next trip." -Aharon A
RELAXING GETAWAY IN THE MOUNTAINS

"My husband and I stayed almost two weeks in this gorgeous cabin and we loved every minute of it. The property is secluded and the cabin is equipped with everything you need—from cooking utensils to toiletries to charcoal for the grill. They even have telescopic skewers for the marshmallows! Candles and oil lamps everywhere added to the rustic atmosphere. The owners are very responsive and thoughtful, which was a major plus for us.
We really enjoyed watching the hummingbirds play in the back porch—they came right up to us asking for food! We loved grilling out on the deck and roasting marshmallows on the fire pit at night. Overall, a very relaxing experience and we look forward to coming back to this property. We didn’t use much of the internet and we didn’t try to stream television, so we cannot comment on those. If you want to disconnect and enjoy nature, this is the place for you." -Paulina V

"We stayed the weekend for a family get together and my nephew's birthday. It was perfect! The drive in was beautiful, the cabin was so comfortable, and the owners couldn't be nicer. The cabin was so cute, clean and well stocked, with comfortable beds and quality linens. The yard was landscaped so charmingly, and the view, especially from the back porch was just gorgeous! Comfy chairs on the back porch made it a great place to hang out and listen to music while grilling . Or just sit and listen to the spring fed stream that runs beside the yard. The weather made the nearby hiking trails less than ideal, but we will get them next time!" -Tom B

"White Pine is a perfect mountain cabin experience with lots of extras such as relaxing outside spaces, beautiful setting, comfortable all around and has fun and knowledgeable owners who know the area well. Close to all but away from it all. Perfect location for great hiking trails (ask Kevin, the owner ). The cabin itself is cozy, comfortable and decorated nicely. Highly recommended by this guest!" Great Spot for our Xmas Vacation

"Loved our Christmas stay at this cabin. We enjoyed the private setting and the wonderful view. My son loved being able to bring our dog Bo with us. And Bo loved going to Waynesville with us, walking Main Street and being allowed into many of the stores. We took advantage of having the owners do a little grocery shopping before we arrived and enjoyed not having to stop along the way. The owners also had a Christmas tree set up and decorated for us and were available to offer advice for great places to hike and places to eat. Looking forward to a fall or spring trip….we didn’t get to use the fire pit or the great porches! Just a thought for the owners, you may want to get the cabin warmed up a bit more before guests arrive in colder weather." Libby C.
Perfect place to stay for hiking and fly fishing!

"We found the perfect place to stay for hiking and fly fishing in Shining Rock Wilderness. The Big East Fork trailheads are less than a mile away. The farther you go up East Fork trail, you’ll discover fantastic fishing holes with rarely a person in sight. One day we parked one of our cars at the Black Balsam (Art Loeb) trailhead and hiked back to the cabin via Shining Creek trail—about a five hour ramble. The cabin was comfortable, private, and well furnished, more like a home than a typical rental. The owners live about a half mile away and couldn’t have been more accommodating. We also really enjoyed the short drive up to the Pisgah Inn for dinner—it has incredible views and great food. Next time we’re planning on a two week stay!" -Paul D
